Piano tuning services

Professional piano tuning for homes, schools and performance spaces. Whether your piano is used for daily practice, teaching or special events, I help keep it sounding its best and working reliably.

Piano tuning

Regular tuning keeps your piano stable, in tune with itself and enjoyable to play. A typical visit takes around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the instrument.

Voicing

Voicing allows me to adjust the tone of your piano, making it brighter, warmer or more even across the keyboard. This is helpful if your piano sounds too harsh or uneven.

Pitch raises

If a piano has dropped significantly in pitch, I can carry out a pitch raise to bring it back up to standard concert pitch, followed by a fine tuning. This depends on the piano’s condition and whether it can safely handle the extra tension.

Repairs and maintenance

I carry out minor repairs on site, such as fixing sticking keys or small mechanical issues. For larger repairs or deep cleaning, I’ll always advise honestly on whether the work is worthwhile.

Schools, venues and events

I regularly tune pianos in schools, colleges, theatres and for local music festivals. I understand the importance of reliability and timing when instruments are needed for lessons, rehearsals or performances.

Piano tuning FAQs

A standard piano tuning usually takes between 45 minutes and an hour. Additional services such as voicing and pitch raises can take up to an additional hour.

Ideally every six months to keep it stable and in tune, but once a year is a good compromise for many households.

If it sounds noticeably out of tune, it’s already overdue. Regular tuning helps the piano hold its pitch better over time.

Standard tunings start from £75, depending on distance and the condition of the piano. If anything additional is needed, I’ll talk you through the options first so you can decide what’s right for you and your instrument. Please get in touch to discuss.

Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer on the day. I can also provide invoices if needed for records or tax purposes.

Yes — I tune all types of acoustic pianos, including grand pianos and uprights.

Yes, often older pianos can be tuned, but the age isn’t always the main consideration as it also depends on how well the piano has been looked after. I’ll always give honest advice if tuning to full pitch isn’t realistic.

It may still be possible to improve the tuning, but very neglected or very old pianos may not return fully to concert pitch. I can assess your instrument and explain your options during your appointment.

Yes. It’s best to leave the piano to settle in its new environment for 2–4 weeks before tuning.

I recommend using specialist piano movers for house moves. With help, I can move an upright piano within the same room or floor.
